Hexie Dreams 12

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

I know I said I wouldn’t purchase any more fabric since I had inherited plenty over the years and had recently gotten a lovely stash from my aunt, but I came across a new fabric line that matched my fussy-cut English paper-piecing Hexie Dreams quilt so perfectly, I couldn’t resist. The set is Lella Boutique’s Love Note (for Moda). Another 30 hexies has been prepped!

The only fabric left that I might add is from my aunt’s collection, and then I will be ready to start piecing them together! There are maybe three more cuts that could match, and then I just haven’t decided yet if I really want to cut into the layer cake or not for this project. The colors are perfect, though! I’ll decide that after some time; I like to let things percolate in my head a bit.

I’ve really come to enjoy making this quilt because it adds a nice balance to the embroidery projects which can, at times, take up a lot of bandwidth in thinking things through. On the days that I just want to couch-potato, I can at least be a little productive with the hexies. While I altered my plan from last year (thinking I would have the entire quilt made during 2021, but then I got a new job on a whim), I do hope to piece it together before this year’s end. Quilted, though? Let’s not put the knots before the needle;)

Hoop-D-Do Challenge

Hoop-D-Do Challenge

My embroidery guild always has an annual challenge of some type and this year was our “Hoop-D-Do” project, whereby we were to create a work using specific stitches to be displayed in the hoop itself. My display of flowers in a “wood” bowl speaks the 70s to me. And, as usual, I didn’t stick to the rules well and added my own flare – ha!
