#52tagshannemade 35

Tuesday, September 28, 2021

[I am following Anne Brooke‘s 2021 #52tagshannemade slow stitch challenge to make a little tag every week of the year – see them all here!] This week, the challenge was to use three buttons and a scrap of precious fabric. You’ll notice that I used shell beads rather than buttons – I had to fit a theme after all! I chose a few precious fabric scraps: a piece of sari silk and hand-dyed cheese cloth that was included in the kit I received to make the talisman pouch. Both have become very popular, but I have no idea where to buy them locally so I am hesitant on using them up. (If I open the can of worms of ordering online, my wallet would be in a world of hurt!) I also used a piece of hot pink silk I’ve had for literally 12 years. I know this because I bought it to make something for when my niece was born, which perhaps will some day happen still, but I am starting to think otherwise…

My theme needed to feel beachy, which is why I turned to shell beads rather than three buttons. The cheese cloth represents the ocean waters. And the color combinations are all to represent Florida, because I visited my aunt and uncle this week with my brother.

The only other addition to this tag is that I used some salmon colored metallic thread I was given by my aunt (in fact, most of the fabric you’ll see on the upcoming tags is all from her stash!). My visit to Florida, you see, was prompted by my aunt’s request to help clear out a room, with me as a benefactor. I will forever be indebted to the wonderful things she has passed on to me! <3

This is a really simple tag design, but it is one of my favorites.
